Overview

It has long been known that online laboratories (remote and virtual) can supplement or replace physical ones in higher education. In many cases this depends on the lab activities’ learning objectives. However, the suitability of lab types and learning objectives is much less known and, hence, still a topic of ongoing research. To dig deeper into that, we must know which learning objectives teachers define in accordance to different learning groups and fields. Subsequently, further questions are important to be answered: What are the criteria for learning success? How can success be observed and measured? How can positive results be reproduced by other lab designers and instructors? Are there tools and instruments that can be used across subject fields, areas of education, or even internationally? In this Special Session, we want to tackle those questions and try to make a step towards a better constructive alignment of online experimentation.
