Workshop #1 - Thu 27/02 (9:00 to 11:00) The WOAS project - A possible CPS Integration Platform
(PDF)
In 2011, the new R&D project "Architecture and Interface of a Web-oriented Automa-tion System (WOAS)" was launched in the
Competence Center Automation Duesseldorf (CCAD). The WOAS architecture allows the principles and methods from the standardized
world of Internet technologies to be transferred into the world of industrial automation in a systematic and structured manner.
A WOAS consists of a WOAS core as well as a configurable number of Web-oriented automation services stored in a cloud that implement
the required automation functions. The workshop gives an overview about the project, presents the most important technical details
of a WOAS system and describes the application of the results for the integration of CPS components with associated services
(CPS - Cyber Physical System). The workshop contains following topics:
> Overview of the WOAS project
> Concept and Implementation
> Examples: Virtual Devices & Services
> Practical work in the Demo platform
In the practical hands-on part of the workshop the participants can test and look into the implementation of some WOAS examples for operation of a real assembly station in the Duesseldorf Telelaboratory. Moreover they can also work in the demo version of the WOAS integration platform and create a simple user-specific Remote Lab Experiment.

Workshop #2 - Thu 27/02 (9:00 to 11:00)
A Aplicacao de Simuladores Educacionais 3D em Cursos de Automacao Industrial a Distancia (Delivered in Portuguese)
(PDF)

Workshop #4 - Thu 27/02 (9:00 to 11:00) Teaching Engineering Design with Student-Owned Lab Equipment
The objective of this workshop is to demonstrate ways in which student-owned lab approach can be used to teach principles of analog and digital circuits through hands-on design projects and eventually challenge, engage, and excite students with engineering design problems. Students own their personal lab workbench to solve open ended problems with unlimited access. In this workshop, Mr. Sergio Pavesi will demonstrate how students can learn about circuits and through hands-on, project-based, open-ended exercises. Sergio will also address the concepts to students where they can see the principles used in the experimental design and analysis - or better yet, involving students in the experiment itself where they must apply the concepts to achieve the design goal - stimulates a deeper understanding of the material. Through these demonstrations, participants will leave with instructional materials that will enable them to easily incorporate these activities into their own courses.

Presenter:
Sergio Pavesi now works as a senior training engineer in the Mirifica, a Digilent training partner in Italy. He focuses on providing engineering educational solutions for schools and universities in Europe. His areas include digital design, embedded systems, analog circuit designs and so on.
